Carrot Pudding/ Gajar Halwa/ गाजर हलवा

Gajar ka Halwa


  • Red and juicy carrots- 9-10 medium sized
  • Full cream Milk- 1 cup
  • Caster Sugar- 1 cup 
  • Cardamom powder- 1/2 tea spoon 
  • Dry fruits-
    • Raisins- 14-15
    • Almonds- 10-12(chopped)
    • Dry coconut(Grated)- 2 table spoon


Wash, peel and then grate the carrots, either with a hand held grater or in a food processor.


Put a heavy bottom pan on gas stove. Add all grated carrots in pan. Pour milk in the pan. Cook grated carrots in milk on medium flame. Stir occasionally. Milk will start reducing slowly. Now, stir constantly, Keep scraping the sides of the pan to remove the evaporated milk solids and add the milk solids to the cooking mixture. Cook until carrots become softer. Next add sugar and cardamom powder, stir and cook on low flame until all the moisture is absorbed. Next add all dry fruits and stir. Halwa is ready.

Take out halwa in a serving dish. Garnish with raisin, sliced almonds and grated coconut and Enjoy..:)


You can also add ghee/clarified butter after adding sugar if you want.
